While both metal beams & concrete blocks are listed in the requirements, a bridge will require the metal beams first, before the concrete blocks. Cargo must be delivered in specific sequences, & the items themselves must be specific. Even when the terrain was predictable & the trucks capable, there are easily misunderstood instructions on the task-list. Even in the standard delivery tasks, there were hidden challenges.
Amidst all these hidden obstacles, of which there are plenty, lies short tree stumps that will stop a truck going at full speed, damaging engines & completely destroying tires. I found out the hard way that this part of the journey is a hidden obstacle. There was another point in Island Lake where the mud was flat, but the left side was softer than the right side of the mud road.
The next issue in these series of Michigan maps was knowledge of the terrain, especially so in Island Lake & Drummond Island. I had to drive a hulking P12 all the way from Smithsville Dam into Island Lake, past narrow tracking trails & marsh to Island Lake. In the end, I concluded that the game-suggested Twinsteer is shyte. My Azov sank deeper into the mud each time I pulled the Twinsteer, & I was in sweat from worry every time this occured. Winching the Twinsteer was a pain every time because the roads in Island Lake are muddy & narroe.
In fact, my Island Lake is littered with containers of drilling equipment.
I kept tipping over at different parts of the map. Even with this knowledge, I still failed because the suggested heavy truck - the Twinsteer - performed miserably in this undulating terrain. This combination of heavy cargo & long slopes require heavy trucks. In fact, the semi-trailer flipped on its side, discarding the container. Yet, I was shocked when it couldn't climb the slope with the cargo. Up to this point, my Azov 64131 performed admirably despite not having any upgrades. I had no idea what the drilling equipment was nor did I know how capable my truck was. This was in the Island Lake map, where I had to deliver 3 contrainers of drilling equipment to the warehouse. In fact, there is 1 point that shows that the lack of knowledge of the differences in trucks is a showstopper for me. Using the wrong tools is recipe for failure & frustration. Knowledge of the different kind of trucks is vital for the 1st map in snowrunner knowing the difference between highway trucks, offroad trucks & heavy haulers is vital to using the right tools for each task.
While the interface is easy enough for a console controller, knowing how to switch between trucks without being near the other trucks is vital in this game & there is no tutorial on how to do this. The most frustrating thing in the 1st few hours is the unintuitive menu. Knowledge of the different kind of trucks is The first few hours made me question if buying Snowrunner was a mistake.
